Trends and Computer Games

The demand for computer and video games had been steadily increasing and continues to command respect and suppot in the market of entertainment. Its influence on other fields is becoming massive than music and movie industries.

Aside from working toughly just to produce the software for the games and peripherals to meet the demand, game designers, and hardware manufacturers must cope with the latest technologies so as to be able to compete with the vast number of comouter games proliferating in any corners of the world. Various types of games are on the market, that even some gamers have no idea that such games could exist. The same is true with the manufacturers where production of hardware that are more portable and that could maximize the simulateions of the games. Such makes the demand much even higher.

Other than the overpowering existence of the games, another trend can be also detected. As new technologies are discovered, virtual reality is the norm for such form of entertainment. As virtual reality simulation and the world of computer and video games merges, the more immersion one could get from playing, the better the game is.

We could not deny another fact. As individuals look for outlets and be able to have neighnors, games that could make the player interact with friends has become a hit, just like in the social networking sites like Farmville.

In general, the world of computer gaming is very interesting, and is not going to dissipate in thin air. In fact, it is still developing on uncharted grounds.

Piracy Business

Recently, computer and video games piracy has been running rampant and had eventually made it in the headlines.
Despite the fact that piracy is an old business, the escalation and the illustrious yet desperate technical campaigns of publishers, game designers, and authorities to  halt the "black market's" propagation and distribution of illegally reproduced game software are proliferating at unimaginable speed.
Most game makers, just like other software companies, had devised all means so as to prohibit and reduce the likeness of copying the original identity of the games. Some had utilized 'restrictive protection schemes' that inhibit counterfeiting and distribution of electronic data.
However, as long as incentives for creating copycats still exist, getting rid of piracy would be next to impossible. This means that if there is still somebody who patronizes counterfeit games, he / she is contributing and promoting piracy even unconsciously.
On the other hand, we have to ask ourselves why most people favor imitation rather than procuring the original ones.
One reason is the exorbitant cost. Not every game sold in the shelves is a good game, so players just get them safe - they just test what is most suitable to their taste, and that means trying the games at the lesser price from the sidewalks and online shops that provide cheaper or free downloads for the same game that costs much higher if bought from the accredited distributors.  Who wouldn’t be happy if such games will be provided for free?
A way to do it is to give games away at a lesser cost and offer  a range of smaller down-loadable purchases at various prices. The customer would prefer this way rather than a one - time deal of a thousand bucks for a single purchase. An example of this is the social network game “Farmville” where the game costs nothing, unless you want to go to the higher level and choose to buy some additions.
Another reason is that game titles should be made widely available anytime. Since there are a whole wide variety of games that you don’t even think exist, it is much feasible to sell a lot of copies at cheaper prices in order for it to be profitable.
In general, the two mentioned ways in order for the game to broaden the market and increase profitability will do more than stamping out piracy by litigation or other technical campaigns.

DotA or Me

Just recently, a particular office gossip had caught my attention- a colleague as well as a friend had a split – up event with her boyfriend, who is also an office-mate. Of course, that’s no big deal to anybody. Everybody has a time in our lives when we experience heartaches, broken hearts and bad break – ups.

However, this case is one of the office romances that is quite sad to hear: guy prefers to be with Dota rather than with the girlfriend.

You must be intrigued who Dota is. Dota – perhaps she is the most coveted girl – next – door who is pretty, witty and sweet ...

Yet, DotA or what they call the Defense of the Ancients according to Wikipedia is a perhaps the most popular "free, non-supported game mod in the world”. It is traditional scenario for the real-time strategy video game Warcraft III wherein teams of players competes against each other.

Simply a video game, not a girl. However, this set up is not alone in the contemporary setting: it is only one of the millions that had sprouted along with the advancement of the computer age and online role playing games.

So why the addiction to what we would call real – time role playing games or RPGs? I, myself is not a gamer but had at one time of my life have had experienced such addiction to computer games. I also felt the need to justify on the part of the guy’s feelings why he had preferred such set – up even though it would not be good to both of them.

One reason is fun. Nobody could deny that every game is a good diversion in its own right – especially when you could interact with other people from other parts of the globe. It is simply amazing that you could unwind oneself after a heavy discussion at work or just passing time. Boredom could be forgotten easily if we are preoccupied with anything that we are enjoying with. The girl, just for the sake of the boyfriend, has also learned to play.

Then, the enjoyment melted  into hours of gaming. The sense to achieve comes into place. It is a turning point when the feeling to complete or crush the opponent is simply overpowering. An hour is simply not enough, thus time is a precious element in the endeavor: time is just not enough to be satisfied or get what you want or be better than anybody else in the virtual community.

The same situation, I could remember some colleagues and friends when they would always talk about their haciendas at Farmville or their resort businesses at a very popular social networking site.

In  addition, through such games, whether old or young knows something more about what they love to do - they know how to take care of friends, manage businesses, and excel at it.

The least to be expected reason,  is to escape the real world. RPGs has provided a haven for people who don’t want their real lives and wants to be in a place where they could control anything them do – well, the sort of a hero mentality. Of course, we in our own little ways, sometimes would fancy . Real life is quite difficult to cope with. And online games that simulate the real world is a great outlet to express our inner yearnings.

Anyway, that is how life goes on. RPG's are a reality of their own.

I just wish there is a married life RPG.
